Wednesday, Sept. 7. South Iceland brings all the action.

Yesterday, we were astounded by Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach and by all the glaciers we were passing. We kept stopping and each stop took a long long time. Here are some photos from yesterday (the 6th).

On Wednesday, Sept. 8.

Fred had picked out a hike for us weeks ago and today was our chance to try it out. It did not disappoint, as we hiked up the Skoga River from sea level and passed more than a dozen waterfalls. In fact, the guide book we read suggested not stopping to take a picture every time because you'll just be taking pictures all day and the next one will be more amazing anyway.

Here are some photos from our 11 mile adventure that left us weary. Luckily there was a restaurant / bar nearby so we headed over for a cup of hot tea to celebrate the accomplishment.

Now we are at Lilt Geysir Hotel on the Golden Circle.

We are in Geyser country now. There is one that goes off regularly like Old Faithful.

We avoided the expensive restaurant by our hotel and went down to what the front desk called the "burger" place by the campground. It was really good and you can see what we ordered in my photo. There were no burgers on the menu however.

I went to the WC at restaurant. Opened door and there is a guy leaning against wall looking at phone. I realize it is a room for both genders and we just go into private cubicle for toilet, then come out to middle room to wash up, check our hair, or for this guy, read the phone.

We know about this from watching Borgen, set in Denmark. That’s how the bathrooms are set up there. The politicians, women and men, are often discussing business as they wash up after visiting the loo.

A lot of Iceland reminds me of Denmark. Or at least IKEA because I have not actually been to Denmark.
